What To Do In Case of a Water Leak In Your Bathroom

10/13/2020 (Permalink)

As a home or business owner, you may experience a leak in your bathroom that has shown up suddenly with no warning, or you may also find that you have a small leak that has been present for a while that has also become a problem. In either case, a water leak can cause a lot of damage to any home or business.

Today we are sharing some things you can do in case of a water leak in your bathroom:

The most vital step is to find the bathroom leak, so you will need to inspect your bathroom for signs of water damage. Check the areas around your tub, the tub drain and its overflow, your shower door, and the toilet. Inspect all the drywall in the affected room or area for signs damage, such as buckling, discoloration, and warping. Take note of any unusual or unpleasant odors, since this can mean that you may also need to handle a mold infestation.

If you find signs of water leaking from the base of either your tub or toilet, you can scratch out old grout and add new caulking in the joint between the floor and the tub or toilet. You will also want to apply a bead of clear silicone caulk to the joint between the floor and the affected fixture.

If you discover that your shower is the source of the trouble, you will first want to take steps to determine exactly where the issue is coming from. The most common problem is often that the seal at the base of the shower door needs to be replaced; you should be able to complete this project yourself with no trouble. If your shower is older and needs to be replaced, call your local professionals for help here.

Sometimes there is an issue developing under a sink. This is an easy situation to miss since we don’t usually look under the sink very often. You may want to make it a point to inspect underneath your sink areas on a regular basis, and keep an out for some telltale signs of a leak such as corrosion on pipes, puddles and warped cabinet bases. Determine where the water is coming from, and then decide if this is a do-it-yourself project or if it might be time to call in the professionals.
